Section 1
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. They are widely used to make websites work, to keep you signed in, to remember choices you make, and to support security. This Policy also covers similar technologies such as browser local storage, which Skill Retain uses to remember settings on your device. Wherever we refer to "cookies" in this Policy, we mean cookies and these similar storage technologies together.
Section 2
How Skill Retain Uses Cookies
We use cookies and browser storage only for purposes that are necessary to provide the platform or that improve your experience. Specifically, we use them to authenticate you, maintain your session, remember your language and theme, support the onboarding tour, and keep track of context such as your selected organization. We do not use cookies for advertising, profiling, or cross-site tracking. We do not sell data collected through cookies.
Section 3
Essential Cookies
Essential cookies are required for the platform to function and cannot be switched off in our system. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as signing in. - access_token: stores your authentication token so you stay signed in. Retained for up to 30 days. - refresh_token: used to renew your session securely when your access token expires. Retained for up to 30 days. If you block these cookies, you will not be able to sign in or use the platform.
Section 4
Functional Storage
We store a small number of preferences in your browser's local storage to improve your experience. These are not used for tracking and remain on your device until you clear them. - theme: remembers your light, dark, or system appearance choice. - skill-retain-language: remembers your selected language. - hasSeenTour: remembers whether you have completed the onboarding tour. - selectedOrganization: remembers which organization workspace you are viewing. - pendingSubscriptionCheckout: temporarily remembers a plan you selected before signing in so checkout can resume. - skill-retain-cookie-consent: remembers that you have acknowledged this cookie notice.
Section 5
Third-Party Cookies
When you make a payment, you are redirected to our payment provider, Stripe, on its own hosted checkout and billing pages. Stripe may set its own cookies on those pages for security, fraud prevention, and session management. These cookies are controlled by Stripe and governed by Stripe's own privacy and cookie policies, not by Skill Retain. We do not control or have access to cookies set on Stripe's domains.
Section 6
Analytics and Advertising
Skill Retain does not currently use analytics, advertising, marketing, or cross-site tracking cookies. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not share cookie data with advertising networks. If we introduce optional analytics or similar technologies in the future, we will update this Policy and, where required by law, ask for your consent before they are used.
Section 7
Managing Your Cookies
Most browsers let you view, block, and delete cookies and clear local storage through their settings. You can also browse in private or incognito mode to limit what is stored. Please note that essential cookies are required to use Skill Retain. If you clear or block your authentication cookies, you will be signed out and will need to sign in again, and some preferences may be reset.
Section 8
Changes and Contact
We may update this Cookie Policy as our product, vendors, or applicable laws change. Material changes may be communicated by website notice, in-product notice, or another reasonable method. If you have questions about this Cookie Policy or how we use cookies, contact privacy@skillretain.com.
